Intacaine jelly is a topical anesthetic used for pain relief. Intacaine jelly may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide. Intacaine jelly contains Lidocaine Topical as an active ingredient. Intacaine jelly works by blocking impulses in the nervous system that cause the pain. Since Lidocaine is a local anesthetic, Intacaine jelly is applied to the skin in order to relieve minor pain and inflammation. It should not be used in persons with severe coronary artery disease such as acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, uncontrolled cardiac arrhythmias, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or uncontrolled tachyarrhythmias.
